The QuestRouter dataset
QuestRouter combines the anonymous quest data players share into one dataset of where quests happen and how long they take, and builds the leveling routes from it. The combined dataset is published with every data pack.
License in short
- Non-commercial use is free under Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International (CC BY-NC 4.0).
- Commercial use needs a license from Moikas LLC, which runs QuestRouter. Contact us about a commercial license.
- Per-player data is never part of it and is never licensed or sold.
Full terms: DATA-LICENSE.md. The QuestRouter code is separately MIT licensed.
What the dataset contains
Only combined world data, built from many players' sessions:
- where quest givers and turn-in NPCs stand (map ID and x/y);
- objective hotspots: the areas where players complete each kill or collect objective, as clustered circles;
- quest facts observed in game: levels, XP rewards, prerequisites, which quests are new in Forever;
- typical movement speed per zone, learned from movement trails;
- the generated routes: step order per zone and faction, with estimated minutes and levels;
- coverage statistics per zone, as shown on the dashboard.
It ships in each data pack (db.lua, routes.lua and routes.json, described in
CONTRACTS.md
§6): inside the addon as QuestRouter Data, in the repository under addon/QuestRouter_Data/,
and as release downloads. The newest pack's manifest is at https://api.questrouter.app/v1/datapack/latest.
What it never contains
- individual sessions, movement trails or event logs;
- install IDs, character IDs, IP addresses or upload times of any one player;
- character profiles from app.questrouter.app: level curves, gear, gold, professions, talents. The pipeline that builds the dataset ignores character IDs and snapshots completely;
- character names, realms or accounts, which QuestRouter never collects in the first place.
A crowd-sourced position replaces the seed value only after at least three observations, and positions are published as cluster centres and circles, not as anyone's exact path.
Consent
Everyone who shares data agrees to this in the addon's opt-in dialog and in the companion app:
Aggregated, anonymized quest data is published and may be licensed in aggregate (non-commercial use free, commercial use paid).
This wording is consent version 2. When it changes, the addon pauses collection and asks again. See the privacy page for everything that is collected and how to delete it.
Attribution
When you use the dataset, credit it like this:
Quest data: QuestRouter contributors, https://questrouter.app, CC BY-NC 4.0
Mention the data pack version (for example 2026.10.08-3) and say if you changed the data.
Data that is not ours to license
- Game content. Quest titles, NPC and item names and IDs are World of Warcraft content owned by Blizzard Entertainment. They are included only to make the dataset usable and are not licensed by us.
- Questie seed. Values that no player has observed yet come from a seed derived from Questie (GPL-3.0); see seed/NOTICE.md. Our license covers QuestRouter's crowd-sourced observations and the routes built from them. It does not relicense Questie's data.
